World of Warcraft: Forever Is Live — Azeroth, Reimagined

Azeroth is calling again — and this time, it's not quite the Azeroth you remember. Blizzard Entertainment launched World of Warcraft: Forever worldwide on November 4, 2026, with the gates to a reimagined original Azeroth opening at 3 p.m. PST (6 p.m. EST). If you logged in last night, you were part of one of the biggest WoW launches in years — and by all early reports, one of the smoothest Blizzard launches in recent memory.

So what exactly is Forever? Announced at BlizzCon 2026 on September 12, it's a permanent third branch of World of Warcraft, sitting alongside the modern game and Classic rather than replacing either. Blizzard calls it a new home built on the original 2004 Azeroth — the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor you first fell in love with — but set in a separate continuity during the game's first year, with brand-new stories and zones layered on top. Not a season, not a replay of the old expansion timeline: a promise to keep building this world with the community.

The adventure caps at level 60, and two of the biggest design choices will feel refreshingly old-school: no flying mounts and no level scaling. Blizzard has packed it with more than 1,000 new quests, three brand-new zones at launch — Mount Hyjal, the Riverglades, and Shen'dralas — plus the skybound starting isle of Zephras, home of the new Skyborne race. Nine new five-player dungeons stretch from level 13 to endgame, and two raids, Hyjal Summit (20 players) and Barrow Deeps (10 players), unlock on December 9.

The Skyborne are the headline addition: a new winged race, split between the Horde-aligned Windshaper and Alliance-aligned High Order, playable via an optional upgrade. The base Forever experience is included with a regular World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time — no separate purchase needed. And if you've ever dreamed of forbidden combos, Forever delivers: Undead Paladin, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Orc Mage, and Troll Warlock are all on the table.

Instead of a realm list, you choose a Ruleset — Normal, PvP, Roleplay, or Roleplay-PvP — with Hardcore planned for after launch. And launch day ran smoothly: IGN's live blog called it one of the smoothest Blizzard launches in years, and the first legendary weapon, Taldramir, The Whispering Wood, was already claimed within hours.

The bottom line: whether you're a veteran who still remembers your first steps in Elwynn Forest or a curious newcomer who has never set foot in Azeroth, Forever is both a homecoming and a fresh start. The old world is waiting — and this time, it has places you've never been.
