Two New Assassin's Creed Games Are Reportedly in Development — One Set in Ancient Rome

The Nerd Senpaii is breaking in with a big one — and this one comes with a very important label: rumor. Two new Assassin's Creed games are reportedly in development at Ubisoft, and one of them is said to take the series somewhere it has never gone as its main setting before: Ancient Rome.

Here is what is being reported, and what is not. According to reports published on November 7, 2026, content creator J0nathan (xj0nathan) shared the claims in a video that circulated on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours. The story was then reported by Insider Gaming (Tom Henderson), TheGamer, and The Daily Game. J0nathan says two sources with access to Ubisoft's backend systems corroborated the claims. That is a notable detail — but it is not the same thing as an official announcement, and it is not the same thing as independent verification.

Insider Gaming itself is clear on that point: the outlet says it has heard the codenames involved, but it has not verified the claims to its own standards. So everything that follows should be read as reported and unconfirmed, not as something Ubisoft has announced. Ubisoft has not officially announced or confirmed either game.

The first of the two reported games is codenamed Mars. It is reportedly a mainline Assassin's Creed entry set in Ancient Rome. If that turns out to be true, it would be the first Assassin's Creed game with Ancient Rome as its primary setting. That distinction matters, because the series has been to Rome before — but not this Rome. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood was set in Renaissance Rome in the 1500s, a very different era, with a very different city. A game set in Ancient Rome would mean the Republic or the Empire, gladiators and legions and the Senate, rather than the Renaissance streets Ezio Auditore walked.

For longtime fans, that is the headline. Assassin's Creed has already taken players to Ancient Egypt in Origins and Ancient Greece in Odyssey, and both of those games were huge successes built around exploring a living ancient world. Ancient Rome has always felt like the obvious missing piece of that trilogy — the third great civilization of the ancient Mediterranean that the series somehow never made its main stage. If Codename Mars is real, it would finally close that loop.

The second reported game is codenamed Pocket, and it is a very different kind of project. It is reportedly a mobile Assassin's Creed game set in Jerusalem, with gameplay reportedly similar to the Mastery Challenges from Assassin's Creed Valhalla. No release window has been reported for Pocket, and no platforms have been confirmed for it either. Platforms for the reported Rome game are likewise unconfirmed.

Some context helps explain why this is a rumor to sit with, not a reveal to celebrate just yet. Assassin's Creed Hexe is the next mainline title in the series, and it has reportedly been delayed internally to around 2028. If a Rome game is indeed in development behind it, it would likely not be heard about officially until 2029 or 2030 — years from now, not months. That long timeline is exactly why early reports like this one need to be treated carefully: a lot can change between a codename in a backend system and a finished game on a shelf.

There is one more Ancient Rome connection worth noting. The upcoming Netflix Assassin's Creed series is also set in Ancient Rome, so the era is clearly on Ubisoft's mind across its adaptations — even if that tells us nothing on its own about whether a Rome game is in the works.

So where does that leave us? Two games, two codenames, two very different settings — Mars in Ancient Rome, Pocket in Jerusalem — reported by J0nathan, picked up by Insider Gaming, TheGamer, and The Daily Game, and not confirmed by Ubisoft. It is an exciting rumor, and a believable one for a series that has already conquered Egypt and Greece. But until Ubisoft says something itself, it stays a rumor.

We will keep watching for anything official, and The Nerd Senpaii will be back the moment there is something solid to break. Until then, tell us: would you play an Assassin's Creed set in Ancient Rome?
