The Elder Scrolls VI Finally Has a Name: Sentinel — and the Sands Are Shifting

After eight years of waiting, Bethesda Game Studios has finally given the next Elder Scrolls game a real name: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The reveal landed on November 3, 2026, tucked into the closing moments of a video celebrating Bethesda's 40th anniversary, with studio chief Todd Howard himself delivering the news. Just like that, one of gaming's longest-running mysteries finally has a title card.

For context on just how long this road has been: the game was first announced back in June 2018, and since then fans have subsisted on almost nothing but a teaser landscape and pure speculation. Now we have a name, a logo in the classic Elder Scrolls style, and a short teaser showing an ancient Elder Scroll rising out of desert sand. That imagery alone sent the fandom into overdrive, and honestly? We get it.

The teaser also carried a quote attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, dated 4E 206: "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate." Bethesda has said it revealed both the name and the location with this announcement, which lines up with years of fan theories pointing to Hammerfell, the desert province of Tamriel. Sentinel is a storied city in that region's lore, so the title feels like a deliberate wink to longtime fans.

Now, the reality check every Elder Scrolls fan needs to hear: Bethesda has not announced a release date, a release window, platforms, gameplay, or story details. The studio said plainly that it will be some time before more is shared, so this is a name reveal, not the start of a full marketing blitz. Reports from outlets like The Verge have suggested the story will dig into the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves, and Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has reported the game is still more than two years away, but treat both of those as reports, not official word.

Still, the timing is perfect. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launched on November 11, 2011, meaning its 15th anniversary is right around the corner. Fifteen years after Skyrim took over our lives, its successor finally has a name. That alone is worth celebrating, even if the wait is far from over.

So, fellow adventurers: what do you think Sentinel means for the future of Tamriel? Are you ready to trade Skyrim's snowy peaks for Hammerfell's sun-baked sands? Sound off, keep your swords sharp, and stay tuned, because the scrolls have finally started to stir again.
