It is Wednesday, November 4, and The Nerds List Daily is going all in on Apple — hosted by Geeked, in ten minutes every morning.
Episode 4, "Apple Goes OLED," is live now. Apple just had one of the biggest hardware weeks in its recent history, and this episode breaks it down as a buying guide ahead of launch day on Friday, November 6 — because the question is not just what Apple announced, but which of these machines, if any, is actually worth your money.
First, the M6 tier. Apple announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip, starting at $1,999, and a new 24-inch iMac with M6, starting at $1,499 for the 10-core model and $1,699 for the 12-core model. Pre-orders opened October 28, and both arrive November 6. Apple claims up to 24 hours of battery life on the new MacBook Pro — a big number, and one Geeked flags as Apple's claim, not an independent test result yet.
Then comes the headline act: Apple's first touchscreen Mac. The new MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display uses tandem OLED technology, reaching up to 2,000 nits with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, ProMotion from 10 to 120Hz, a Dynamic Island, and even a glowing rear Apple logo. It runs on M5 Pro or M5 Max, with the 14-inch model starting at $2,899 and the 16-inch at $3,399, rising to $4,499 and $4,799 with M5 Max. That is roughly a $400 premium over the standard M5 Pro models — so the episode asks the obvious question: is the OLED screen and the touchscreen worth it?
The third piece of the OLED story is the smallest one. The new iPad mini is now confirmed with an 8.5-inch OLED display and the A20 Pro chip, starting at $699 for Wi-Fi and $849 for cellular, with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options, IP67 resistance, and a 5.4mm-thin body. Pre-orders opened October 28, with availability November 6. The one drawback Geeked calls out: it sticks with 60Hz, with no ProMotion.
Looking ahead, the episode also notes Apple TV 4K and Apple HomeView debuting November 13. The bottom line: if you are buying this week, know which tier you are buying into — the solid M6 refresh, the premium OLED touchscreen leap, or the pocket-sized OLED iPad mini — and wait for independent battery and display tests before treating Apple's headline numbers as gospel.
