Well, nerds, the blood moon will have to wait a little longer. FromSoftware has officially delayed The Duskbloods, its vampiric PvPvE multiplayer game for the Nintendo Switch 2, out of its planned 2026 launch window and into 2027. The studio announced the move on October 29, 2026, via the game's official X account, and while the news stings, anyone watching the calendar probably saw it coming.
In its statement, FromSoftware said development is at the "final adjustment stage," but that the team has decided to move the launch window to 2027 to allow time for "final adjustments to game rules and balancing." The extra time comes directly from feedback gathered during the closed network test held August 21–24, 2026, where players showed what the studio called "active interest" in the game's core concepts: direct combat, strategic depth, and player expression. In other words, the test worked exactly the way it was supposed to — it found the rough edges, and FromSoftware would rather sand them down than ship them.
Here's the timeline of how we got here:
- April 2025: The Duskbloods is revealed during the Nintendo Switch 2 unveiling Direct, with a 2026 launch window and director Hidetaka Miyazaki at the helm.
- February 2026: Nintendo and FromSoftware reaffirm the 2026 window, though no specific date is ever attached.
- August 21–24, 2026: A closed network test runs on Switch 2, giving players their first hands-on taste of the game's PvPvE battles.
- September 2026: The game is a no-show at the Nintendo Direct, and speculation about a delay starts to swirl.
- October 29, 2026: FromSoftware confirms it: The Duskbloods is now a 2027 game.
What hasn't changed is the game's identity. The Duskbloods remains a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive with no other platforms announced, and FromSoftware has given no narrower window within 2027 — so the wait could be a few months or most of the year. The studio apologized to players and thanked them for their patience, and Nintendo's regional accounts in Germany, France, and Italy echoed the announcement, saying the move was made "to provide the best possible gaming experience."
Let's be honest: this one hurts because The Duskbloods was shaping up to be one of the Switch 2's biggest third-party draws of the year. A FromSoftware multiplayer game, directed by Miyazaki himself, drenched in gothic steampunk vampire vibes? That's a day-one purchase for half the nerd community. But if there's one studio that has earned the benefit of the doubt on delays, it's this one. FromSoftware's track record says a delayed game has a much better shot at being great than a rushed one does.
So pour one out for 2026, Bloodsworn. The hunt continues — just on a slightly longer timeline. We'll be watching for the next trailer, the next test, and eventually, that 2027 date. Until then, the night is still young.
What do you think — is the delay the right call, or were you ready to sink your fangs in this year? Let us know in the comments.
