DokeV Is Real and Coming in 2028: Everything Pearl Abyss Just Confirmed About Its Creature-Collecting Open World

Seven years. That's how long we've been waiting since Pearl Abyss pulled back the curtain on DokeV at G-Star 2019 — and for the first time, the studio has finally given the game a real launch window: the second half of 2028.

The news comes straight from Pearl Abyss's Q2 2026 earnings letter (published August 11, 2026) and its July and August 2026 investor presentations, which printed "2H28" as DokeV's official schedule. This is the first time the studio has ever put a target window on the project in its investor materials — back in May 2026, the field still read TBA.

So what exactly is DokeV? It's an open-world action-adventure creature-collector rooted in Korean folklore. You play as young adventurers who find and befriend Dokebi — whimsical creatures that draw strength from people's dreams — and set off on adventures together. The original 2021 gameplay trailer gave us a sun-soaked, dreamlike Korean-inspired city where kids skateboard alongside floating spirits, and that aesthetic is a big part of why this one has lived in our heads rent-free for years.

Why the long wait? Simple: Pearl Abyss put DokeV on the back burner to finish Crimson Desert, which shipped in March 2026. Now that the game is out the door (and getting a Nintendo Switch 2 port plus DLC), the studio is shifting development personnel from Crimson Desert onto DokeV, and the Q2 letter confirms the project has moved beyond its foundational system setup into expanding content creation and validating the core gameplay loop. The project is led by founder Daeil Kim as executive producer, with Sangyoung Kim as lead producer.

Here's the roadmap for fans starving for news:

  • 2H 2027 — full-scale marketing kicks off, including hands-on playable demos and a sequence of information reveals. This is the earliest realistic window to actually touch the game.
  • 2H 2028 — targeted launch on PC and console (Pearl Abyss hasn't named specific console generations yet).
  • Meanwhile — expect a slow trickle of trailers, screenshots, and earnings updates rather than playable demos. The studio says reveal strategy is being aligned to the timeline.

A few honest caveats: there's still no storefront listing, no beta, and nothing playable outside the studio. The 2028 target is a planning target, not a dated launch announcement — and we've all watched ambitious windows slip before. But the signal here is different from past silence: concrete personnel shifts, an expanded development team, and the same window printed across three official documents. This is the realest DokeV has ever looked.

DokeV has gone from "announced in 2019" to "coming in 2028" — nine years of development for one dream-soaked open world. When those hands-on demos finally drop in 2027, we'll be first in line. Keep it locked to The Nerd's List for every reveal.
