Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Drops Tomorrow on Netflix — and Hideo Kojima Is Back in Night City

Chooms, pack your neural implants — we're going back to Night City. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 drops on Netflix tomorrow, October 20, with all 10 episodes landing at once, and the run-up just delivered the perfect little bombshell: Hideo Kojima is coming back too.

The official Edgerunners account announced today that the legendary Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator will reprise his role as Hideyoshi Oshima, the renowned braindance director. If you scoured every corner of Konpeki Plaza during "The Heist" in Cyberpunk 2077, you already met him — Kojima's digital likeness and voice appeared as the Tokyo BD producer chasing emotionally resonant recordings instead of the usual salacious content. Now he's stepping back into the frame for the anime, and CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michal Nowakowski marked the occasion with a warm "Always a pleasure to work with Hideo Kojima."

But the Kojima cameo is just the cherry on top of a sequel the fandom has wanted since the first season's devastating finale. Here's the key intel, all verified:

  • Standalone story, new crew. This is NOT a continuation of David Martinez's arc — CDPR has been emphatic that David's chapter is closed. Instead, the 10-episode season follows an entirely new quartet of characters on a tale of revenge and redemption.
  • New director, same Trigger magic. Kai Ikarashi — the storyboard artist and animation director behind the first season's blistering sixth episode, "Girl on Fire" — takes the helm. Studio Trigger returns, with Ichigo Kanno designing the cast, Masahiko Otsuka co-writing, and Tsuneo Imahori (yes, the Trigun composer) scoring the original soundtrack.
  • The music goes full alt-rock. The opening theme is "10:15 Saturday Night" by The Cure, with Petite Meller's "Watson" closing things out.

Early reviews are already rolling in, and the verdict is honest: critics call it a maximalist, ambitious swing that doesn't quite match the first season's emotional devastation — but nobody is calling it a cash grab either. For a series that won Anime of the Year at the 2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, "bold but not perfect" is a ride worth taking.

The one thing everyone agrees on: Night City is waiting. Set your alarms for tomorrow, chooms.
