5 Anime You Can't Miss This Winter (January 2027)

Winter 2027 is stacking up to be one of the most loaded anime seasons in years, and January is doing the heavy lifting. Here are five premieres you need on your watchlist, with the dates and details we have so far.

1. SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 — January 2027, Netflix

Netflix's ex-hitman hit is back. Taro Sakamoto and Shin go undercover at the JCC assassin academy in the JCC Infiltration Arc, hunting intel on the elusive "X." Studio TMS Entertainment returns, with Daisuke Nakajima stepping up to director and season 1's Masaki Watanabe moving to chief director. New assassins Amane, Satoda, and Yotsumura join the fray. Streaming worldwide, exclusively on Netflix.

2. MASHLE: Magic and Muscles Season 3 — January 2027

The Tri-Magicathlon Divine Visionary Final Exam Arc picks up right after Innocent Zero's attack, with Mash Burnedead punching his way through the final exam to become a Divine Visionary. A-1 Pictures is back on animation, most of the staff returns, and Chiaki Furuzumi takes over character design. Expect tournament chaos and that signature dry humor.

3. Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 — January 10, 2027

Sunraku returns to the god-tier game, and this time it's a full two-cour run — roughly 26 episodes diving into the GGC Arc, the tournament showdown between America's STAR RAIN and Japan's Nitro Squad. Studio C2C returns with Toshiyuki Kubooka as chief director. It airs Sundays at 5:00 PM JST on MBS/TBS, with Crunchyroll simulcasting.

4. The Fable Season 2 — January 9, 2027

Retired hitman Akira Sato's "normal life" keeps getting interrupted. Season 2 adapts the Yamaoka Arc, billed as facing "the strongest enemy" of the invincible assassin. Tezuka Productions handles animation again, with Ryoosuke Takahashi directing, airing weekly Saturdays at 24:55 JST on Nippon TV.

5. The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All — January 8, 2027

The sleeper pick. Aya's crush on a masked, all-in-black CD shop clerk hits a twist: the clerk is her classmate Mitsuki. CloverWorks animates, Masashi Ishihama directs, and in a genuinely wild flex, Nirvana's "Breed" is the opening theme. Crunchyroll will simulcast it weekly starting January 8 on NTV's FuraAni block.

That's five heavy hitters in one month. Which one are you queueing first? Let us know, and keep it locked to The Nerd's List as premiere dates firm up.
