Goku: One of the main protagonists in Dragon Ball, Gokou is known for his crazy fighting techniques and signature Kamehameha move. He was born on Earth but later became a citizen of the planet Namek, where he met his future wife Bulma who would help him later in life on his quest to defeat Frieza and become stronger.
Gohan: Gohan is the son Goku had with his first love, Chi-Chi. He was born in the year 778 and stayed on Earth to defeat Cell. After him and Goku defeat Cell, they both travel with his mother to the planet Namek and he becomes the strongest character of the series, able to transform into a Super Saiyan 2.
Piccolo: One of the main villains of Dragon Ball Z, Piccolo is a young Namekian who is trained by King Kai. From there he fights against Goku at King Kai's planet and then rejoins him when Vegeta and Nappa attack Earth. By the time of Kid Buu, he is able to attain Super Saiyan, and become one of the most powerful characters in the show.
Vegeta: One of the main villains of Dragon Ball Z, Vegeta is a short-tempered Saiyan prince who joined Nappa to attack Earth in an attempt to avenge his father King Vegeta. Although this means that he has not accomplished anything, he still remains one of the most powerful characters in the series.
Trunks: Another protagonist from Dragon Ball Z and one of DBZ's most popular characters. Trunks was born on Earth with no future except fighting against Frieza and becoming a Super Saiyan. After he defeats villains such as Frieza and Android #16, Trunks returns from the future where he joins his father in his fight against Cell. He is able to defeat Cell and achieve Super Saiyan 2.
Goten: Another protagonist from Dragon Ball Z, Goten is Gohan's second son with Chi-Chi, who becomes a big brother to Goku's first son Gohan Jr.. After he defeats Majin Buu, he goes to help his brother Gohan on the planet of Namek after learning that there was a lot of strong fighters there. He later transforms into a Super Saiyan 2.
Cell: Another villain who appears throughout Dragon Ball Z. Cell is a robot created by Dr. Gero in an attempt to conquer the world. He also has a cell form later on in his life where his primary goal is to absorb everything that is alive and turn that energy into himself.
Namekians: A race of humanoid beings who inhabit the planet Namek, and are one of the strongest races in Dragon Ball Z, largely because they live very long lives. Although they are not on Earth at any time during the series, this does not mean that they do not have a huge impact on it behind the scenes.
Yamcha: Another main protagonist of Dragon Ball Z and the most powerful character in his family. Yamcha is trained by Master Roshi and starts off as one of Goku's friends. Throughout the series, he loses sight of what his purpose was for a long time until he finally comes to his senses at the end of Dragon Ball Z.
Tien Shinhan: Another main protagonist from Dragon Ball Z and one of the most powerful characters in his family. He is trained by Master Roshi but always tries to be better than others when it comes to fighting, so much so that he owns a bazooka-type weapon as well as a lot of other things.
Videl: Videl is the first child of Gohan and Chi-Chi, who was created as a result of Gohan's wish to be with his first love Videl. She is a good girl, who loves fighting and owns a katana-type Kendo Weapon. She also has a lot of pride in her family's heritage because she is very close to her brother Gohan Jr..
Krillin: A founding member of the Z-fighters who trained with Goku to defeat King Piccolo. He does not have much strength but is a good character nonetheless.
Master Roshi: The founder of the Turtle School and one of the original Dragon Ball characters. He trained Goku, Krillin, Tien Shinhan and Yamcha before they decided to leave. He appears throughout Dragon Ball Z, helping on a number of occasions when needed most.
Chi-Chi: The wife of Son Gohan and the mother to her two children Videl and Gohan Jr.. She is also a nurse at a local hospital on Earth. She is a strong woman who helps out with many different things on Earth when her husband is away.
Naurb: A space monkey from Planet Vegeta who helped Son Goku and company when Nappa attacked Earth. He becomes an ally to Son Goku because he carries a vacuum cleaner, which allows him to collect any dust that might be lurking about on the planet.
