Character Appreciation: Link

I'm sure we have all heard of Link from The Legend of Zelda series but today I wanted to write a post about this character and a little about the series. Link is a fictional character and the main protagonist of Nintendo's video game series The Legend of Zelda. He appears in several incarnations over the course of the games, and also features in other Nintendo media, including merchandising comic books and animated series. Link is one of Nintendo's main icons.

Link has been given various characteristics throughout his appearances - such as being an innocent child or a silent protagonist akin to Samus Aran whose emotional state is heavily dependent on player input but him always maintaining a sense of justice, courage, curiosity and determination. However, some common features include ragged clothing with animal skins draped around his waist as well as being able to wield either swords or bows (depending on era).

The Legend of Zelda was Link's first appearance in a video game and it would go on to become one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time. In the game, Link finds himself in the world of Hyrule which is being ravaged by evil forces. The King requests that Link find the 8 fragments of the Triforce to save Hyrule. He grants him Epona, his horse, and a sword and shield so that he may fulfill this task.

The character design went through several stages before reaching its final version; at one point, he was an adult with facial hair while at another he had a ponytail. The most prominent change that occurred occurred in 1986 when the color scheme of his outfit was adjusted to make it seem less like a child's clothing and more like that of an adult. This re-design also resulted in many other changes, most notably with his hat which was repositioned to the front. However, this also resulted in a slight change in Link's appearance: due to the position of his hat, he would appear to have arrowheads coming out the top as though he were wearing a horned helmet.

Link's character has become very popular with the series' fans, many of whom have written fan fiction about him. One such fan fiction is called Link: A Trifecta and chronicles Link's life as a young child. Another is called The Legend of Zelda: Link, which depicts Link in an alternate timeline in which he grows up rather than receiving his wish by the gods and becomes a legendary hero (in Japanese mythology, only the true hero can become a deity). While many fans focus on writing about Link, others have focused on his adventures outside of Hyrule including some stories that take place during one of his possible future timelines where he faces evil forces as an adult.

As you can see, there's a lot of interesting stuff that you can find on this character. He is very well known and most people are familiar with him in some way or another. I wish there was more information about him but I could only find a single article. Even so, he is still one of the most popular characters Nintendo has ever created until this day. Many people can agree with me when I say he is certainly one of their finest creations so far.
